Wintry Conditions Preclude Fashion Display At Wingatui

With an icy wind blowing across the course and frequent storms of hail and snow, conditions were most unpleasant for spectators at Wingatui on Saturday. Only the spring flowers and the daffodils gave anv indication of the season of the year. Indeed, the bright garb of the Jockeys imparted the only splash of colour to an otherwise sombrely-clad assembly. ~ , . Warm coats and small close-fitting hats were worn by the majority of women, and the loose fur fabric or tweed coat appeared to the greatest advantage. In shades of oatmeal, camel or brown these were often worn with a coloured scarf or gloves. Attractive hats made of fine felt, folded and tucked into a close-fitting, head-hugging shape, were seen in a mushroom pink and a saffron yellow. Many women wore either the classic felt sports hat or a softer beret, trimmed with pearl or gold hat pins. „ Among those present were: Mrs Stewart Macpherson, Mrs A. Chisholm and Miss S.
