CITY TRANSPORT : First Trolley Bus Chassis Reaches NZ
Dunedin’s first trolley bus chassis has arrived from Britain, and is now in the hands, of the bodybuilders at Petone, Wellington, .where work has commenced upon the building of the coachwork. This information was given to the council last night by Cr E. J. Anderson, chairman of the Transport Committee, during the presentation of his report. His remark that it was a very fine chassis was the occasion for some mirth on the part of some councillors. It was not a matter for laughter. Cr Anderson said, but a very serious one. It was the latest thing of its type off the production line. The report he nad received stated that the chassis had created particular interest in Wellington, and that it was a great tribute to British workmanship. The general lay-out of the chassis could only be regarded as excellent. The bodybuilders were working on tne chassis, and he hoped to have the pleasure of inspecting it early in September while in Wellington. Other chassis would be shipped shortly. In the meantime, a shipping schedule had been drawn up and the chassis ordered would arrive alternatively in twos and fours so that the builders would not be short of one upon which to work. The position was highly satisfactory, Cr Anderson added.
