JAIERI HORSE FAIR At the Taieri annual horse fair conducted by Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., a large of catalogue of 287 horses, comprising 30 unbroken horses, -2o broken-in mares and geldings and 62 saddle and harness horses and ponies was offered. The sale was conducted under adverse weather conditions before a large attendance of buyers from Canterbury, Southland and surrounding districts. With the ever-increasing number ot tractors, broken-in horses and unbroken colts and fillies were dull of sale, only outstanding animals reaching anything approaching satisfactory prices. On the other hand, good hacks and harness horses and ponies showing quality met a keen demand and sold readily. Quotations:— Good unbroken colts. 21 years, made to £l9; good unbroken hacks, £2O to £3O; best broken-in mares and geldings, young, £l7 to £2O; useful sorts broken to all work. £l2 to £l4; aged horses. £3 to £5; hacks, £l7 to £25; ponies, from £l7 to £27 10s.
