RESCUE DRAMA

CHILD WEDGED IN DRAINPIPE Rec. 9.30 p.m. BRIBBANE. Apl. 18. In a rescue drama, Geraldine Vandeleur, aged 18 rponths, was recovered from the 14-incli drainpipe in which she was wedged head downwards 10 feet below the surface. She fell in while playing. Hearing the screams of her playmates, fishermen rushed to the spot. One was lowered head first, down the pipe. He was able to seize the child’s legs and both were then drawn to safety. A bend in the pipe saved the child from sliding further down into a section leading to the Brisbane River. She suffered head and face injuries.
