EXEMPTION DESIRED

COMPULSORY TRAINING WARRANTED SCOUT OFFICERS A remit, “ that in view of the possibility of compulsory military training being established in New Zealand, Dominion headquarters be asked to consider the advisability of asking for exemption for warranted officers of the Scouting movement, provided that the warranted officers are willing to undergo Scout training,” was carried at the conference of South Island lay workers of the New Zealand Boy Scouts’ Association on Saturday. 1+ was moved by Mr S. Falkingham, of the Konini Local Association, and seconded by Mr L. E. McCree, of the Kowhai Local Association. The remit was considered necessary because it was thought that if compulsory military training were established, the Scouting movement would lose a number of officers, of whom there was a shortage at present. Speakers said that they did not want people to think they were trying to evade military training.
