FISHERMAN OVERDUE

PA AUCKLAND. Jan. 14, A fisherman who left Okupu Bay, Great Barrier Island, at 11 a.m. on Thursday in a 14-foot flat-bottom boat, has not yet returned to the bay and fears are entertained for his safety. He is Les Walters, aged 35, married. Walters left to pick up crayfish pots. His boat was powered by a small outboard motor and it is feared that it may have overturned in heavy seas or that the motor became disabled. An unsuccessful search of the area was made by a Catalina Air Sea Rescue aircraft which left Hobsonville at 3.45 p.m. and returned at 6 p.m. to-day. The captain of the aircraft. Flight Lieutenant P. J. Warnes, said seas were extremely heavy and there seemd little chance for a small fiatbottom boat to survive.
