CHARGE OF PILLAGING

SEAMAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL PA AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. Police investigations into alleged pillaging from the New Zealand Shipping Company’s vessel Kaikoura in December led to the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court of James Patrick Hampson, a seaman, aged 28, on a charge of stealing 90 dozen pairs of nylon stockings and 59 yards of artificial silk material, of a total value of £497. The accused, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for trial.
