AMPLE FEED
SEASON IN NORTH OTAGO FEW TRANSFERS OF STOCK Special to the Daily Times OAMARU, Jan. 14. Surprise at the statement appearing in the Daily Times that stock were being removed to Southland for feed was expressed by a prominent farmer in Oamaru to-day. There were isolated cases where lines were being transferred to Southland, he said, but it had also to be remembered that lines were being brought from Southland to North Otago. Certain parts of the district were looking particularly well, the farmer said, and up to now had Ijad sufficient rain to cover requirements. In the main killings at the Pukeuri Freezing Works were equal to the average of the last two years, while the quality was better than last year. The rape crops, which up to a short time ago were not doing well, had recovered exceptionally quickly after the rain. Although a few of the oat crops were ripening a little too fast, there were some excellent wheat crops, and taken on the average these crops were up to the North Otago standard. “It should be remembered that North Otago recovers very quickly from a dry spell after a good rain, and within 48 hours a marked change can be seen,” the farmer said. Provided useful rain was experienced inside a fortnight the season would be quite satisfactory. From further inquiries it was revealed that areas which might be expected to be dry and'parched at this time of the year were looking exceptionally well, and there was ample feed fofe, stock.
