“TELECINEMA” TECHNIQUE
RANK ORGANISATION’S RESEARCH SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION IN KENT NZPA Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 23. A demonstration of cinema television wa§ given recently at Bromley, Kent, by the J. Arthur Rank organisation. Part of a BBC programme and also a special Rank programme were shown on a full-size 16 feet by 12 feet screen, and reception was good. . The demonstration is claimed -as proving that a “ telecinema ” programme can be produced for the public if Government permission is given for cinemas to be fitted.
The Rank organisation has spent £250,000 on cinema television research in two years The organisation says that a show could be put on at Pinewood Studios and be beamed to London’s West End cinemas. The present plan is that, given Government permission, London cinemas will show BBC programmes next year, Birmingham will have telecinemas in 1950, and in 1953 there will be direct , transmissions from the Rank studios.
