DUTCH INVADE WEST JAVA
Rec. 0.35 am. BATAVIA, Dec. 23. The Dutch invasion of West Java began to-day when ground forces struck westward in the direction of Tanggerang,. about 14 miles west of Batavia. Another westward thrust was made from the Buttenzorg area. The thrust from Tanggerang has already reached Balaradia, about 16 miles westward. Meanwhile Dutch columns are also pushing.on in East Java, and to-day’s communique reports a marine brigade pushing on south of Babat with no resistance. In North Sumatra, Dutch troops landed by seaplanes on Lake Toba, south of Medan, and occupied the airfield south of the lake. Republican-held Madiun, in East Java, was heavily bombed by the Dutch yesterday, according to a Madiun radio report picked up in Singapore and released by the office of the Indonesian representative. The radio says there were many casualties.
