WATERSIDERS’ BAN
DUTCH SHIPPING TO INDONESIA
ACTION IN AUSTRALIA
Rec. 1 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 23. The Federal Council of the Waterside Workers’ Federation to-day decided to impose a ban on Dutch shipping trading to the Netherlands East Indies. The assistant Federal secretary said a complete ban on the export of goods from Australia to Indonesia would apply immediately. Only Dutch ships would be "affected, because the Dutch had the monopoly on shipping between Australia and Indonesia. A Brisbane report says 300 tons of frozen meat and other commodities destined for Batavia will be held up in Brisbane by the watersiders’ ban. The Federal secretary of the Seamen’s Union. Mr E. V. Elliott, said in Sydney: “We have not yet made a decision, but there is not the least doubt at this juncture that we will co-operate with the waterside workers and refuse to supply tugs and pilots to vessels covered by its ban.”
