CLARE’S PAL DISPLAYS PROMISE FOR AWAPUNI
Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. Orily nine horses from Trentham will be racing on the opening day of the Manawatu meeting on Saturday, and there was little fast work this morning. The trial grass and the plough were open for galloping. Conditions were perfect, and the going was fast on the plough.
.Clare’s Pal left half a mile behind in 51 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 37sec. He is to make his reappearance in the Gillies Hack Handicap at Awapuni, and should be all the better for the race. Galway Bay was under a good hold half a length ahead of Vitesse at the conclusion of an easy five furlongs, the last four being run in 53 2-ssec, and the three in 38 2-ssec.
Balcherrie again showed good form to finish four lengths in front of Hormuz at the conclusion of seven furlongs in lmin 29 l-ssec. It was an impressive effort on the part of Balcherrie, who would need only t.o reproduce his track efforts to have prospects during the holidays.
