WONDER BOY SHOWS IMPRESSIVE FORM FOR AUCKLAND CUP
Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND, Dec. 16. Tlie Auckland Cup horse, Wonder Boy, was responsible for the best gallop at Ellerslie this morning, when he went very solidly over a round on the No. 1 grass, where the going was fast. Master Coronach was another who went well, and smart sprints were recorded by The Hob, Buies, Soft Heart and Dora Lee. Carrying a very light weight. Wonder Boy completed a round in lmin 52 3-ssec. He finished strongly alongside Lachatrey, who brought him home over the last six furlongs in lmin 15 3-ssec. Wonder Boy is right at the top of his form, and in his races he has shaped as if he might stay well. Lachatrey went in good style for a hack, and seems to be making progress again. Master Coronach covered a mile in lmin 46sec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 30sec. He has been working consistently and should be in good order for the summer meeting. Lord Revel did seven furlongs very smoothly in lmin 32 3-ssec, the last five furlongs in lmin ssec. He is carrying a bright appearance, and should be ready for a good effort in the Auckland Cup. Frances was under a good hold and going very freely on the outside of The Grate after completing a mile in lmin Msec, the last four in 54sec. Frances, by Bulandshar, is much bigger than her halfsister, The Grate, and appears to be the freer worker. The Hob is to contest the Railway Handicap on the first day of the summer carnival at Ellerslie, and he is an improving sprinter who might run very well.
