JAMELL VERY FIT FOR HOLIDAY RACING

Except for a southerly with a fairly keen edge on it, conditions were good at Wingatui yteftterdaiy morning, and the tracks were in splendid order. The outside of the course proper was open, but most of the work was done on the sand. There was, however, not a great deal of fast work. Jamell, who looks improved as the result of his racing at Riccarton, hit out in attractive style over four furlongs on the sand in 50 2-ssec. He had Ara Chief and Real Raid with him, but the brother to Fine Night was easily the most impressive. Mysterious Melody led Bonnie Lancer, Push On and Paramour at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 37sec. the first two in 27 2-ssec.

After taking lmin Bsec for the first five furlongs, Kosher and St. Bruno finished a mile gallop in lmin 52 2-ssec. with the Derby winner the more impressive of the two.

The two-year-old Gold King was one of the first to work on the outside of the course proper and he could have improved on the 55sec he recorded for half a mile.

Cricket Field, looking a very much improved horse, went six in lmin 22sec. He will do his New Year racing on the southern circuit.

Flibbertigibett, Thomas and Royal Lark ran six furlongs in lmin 22sec, but Royal Lark was not ridden out over the last bit. Whakawatea was doing better than Lance Art at the end of five furlongs in lmin 9 3-ssec.

Among the large number of horses given strong work were Milly Mandy and String Band, who were raced at the New Zealand Cup meeting. They both look well.
