WATERSIDE WAGES

CASE PREPARED FOR INCREASE P.A. WELLINGTON, June 8. A case for a substantial wage increase for waterside workers has been prepared by national officers of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union and will be considered at a meeting of the National Executive of the Union to-morrow. The case will involve a claim for up to a shilling an hour increase in wages. It will be based on the reduction of the margin between the basic wage rates, of New Zealand watersiders, who receive 3s 8d an hour, and of Australians, whose rate is quoted at 4s 9d art hour.
