SHOOTING LICENCES

<*. RIGHTS OF PROPERTY OWNERS The Southland Society sought legislation making it compulsory for property owners to hold shooting licences, the secretary of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, Mr L. Millar, told members of the council at a meeting last night. Mr Millar, who was one of the delegates who attended the Southland meeting when it was discussed, said there was merit in a subclause suggesting that property holders should not be allowed to delegate their rights when not shooting themselves. The Game Committee reported that 304 pheasants would be liberated this week, 152 birds at Toko and 152 at Brighton. There were sufficient birds to ensure future stocks. Discussing trout liberations, the Angling Committee said that the total number of fingerlings liberated was 26,961. The biggest numbers went to Lee Stream and Deep Stream.
