REQUESTS FOR SITES
OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD PLEASANT VALLEY AND HILL JACK Two deputations waited on the Otago Hospital Board at its meeting last night. The first, from the Otago District Committee of the Young Women’s Bible Class, lead by Mrs W K. Cameron, wanted to purchase a site at Pleasant Valley on which to build a recreational camp. The proposal was referred to the Sanatorium Committee. The second deputation, from the Roslyn-Maori Hill branch of the Plunket Society, requested the board to set aside part of the Hill Jack property for the erection of Plunket rooms. This suggestion was referred to the Finance Committee for a report. Mrs Cameron said that she represented 630 members of the Bible Class and 24 churches in the city. She outlined the necessity for a recreational camp, and said that the Government had indicated that it was willing to make a grant for the purpose if a suitable site were obtained. She said that the move was backed by responsible people in the city, and that no other suitable site had been found after years of search. The camp would not be denominational, and other recreational groups would be able to take advantage of it. Mrs R. Ellis said in support of her proposal that the present premises occupied by the Plunket rooms were inadequate for the large district served The board might consider building a suitable room and let it to the society, or the organisation could itself erect a building. She suggested that accommodation for a district nurse could be provided.
