May 24. , A demand that a United States destroyer flotilla and a cruiser be sent to Beirut to support the United States demand for the immediate release of 40 American citizens taken from the American ship Marine Carp recently was made in -the House of Representatives to-day by Representative Emanuel Cellar (Democrat, New York). “ Lebanon’s action is an affront that the United States cannot take lying down," he said. “Lebanon must be brought to book. If the Lebanese refuse to liberate these Americans, then let Lebanon’s Premier see the smoke and hear the salvoes of our naval guns.” Lebanon defends its seizure of tne Americans on the ground that they were en route to Palestine to help the Jews fight the Arabs .
