THICK FOG

CONDITIONS AT TAIERI AIR SERVICE DISRUPTED MOTH’S FORCED LANDING Because of the Taieri airport being fogbound—the Daily Times was told that conditions at the airport .yesterday were the worst for many* years— National Airways made alternative arrangements for passengers booked for the first plane north this morning. Advice was broadcast that passengers would assemble outside the corporation’s depot in Manse street at 2 a.m. and be taken to Christchurch by three taxis. So far as could be ascertained, alternative arrangements had not been made last night for passengers on any of the other planes due at Taieri today. A blanket of fog obscured the airport on Saturday, but the air service was not seriously affected. Conditions had deteriorated yesterday, when th« visibility was the worst for some time. There was no club flying. Owing to the unfavourable conditions at the Taieri landing field on Saturday a Tiger Moth belonging to the Timaru Aero Club was forced to land in a paddock near Brighton. The landing was made without mishap and the plane will take off when conditions improve. The Taieri. airport was again shrouded in fog yesterday.
