WORK PROCEEDING

IMPROVEMENTS AT TALBOYS HOME REPAIRS INSIDE AND OUT The sombre face of Talboys Home is at present undergoing a course of treatment and improvements are .being made. Still more are planned in the future, the limiting factors being building supplies and labour. The Hospital Board staff has already commenced the renovation and alteration of Wards 9 and 10, which are occupied by male patients. The walls and ceilings are being re-enamelled, the lavatory annexes are being painted and improved, cupboards for overcoats are being installed and each bed is to be provided with a new locker. Outside, a start has been made on the painting of the building and the oiling of the brickwork. The seats in the grounds, which are a favourite resting place when the weather is favourable. are all being painted, and the furniture inside is being renovated. A vast improvement in the appearance of the building will, it is expected, be apparent in a short time. One of the . major undertakings which is now in hand but on which a start has yet to be made is the remodelling of the infirmary block. Alterations and additions are also planned in the other ward blocks occupied by male patients. The contractor, Mr W. H. Naylorhas started on the construction of three cool rooms next to. the kitchen block and a contract has been let to the Fletcher Constriction Company for additions to the laundry. The“ intention is to provide cloakroom accommodation for the dining room staff. This work will be started as soon as a permit is granted. At Marinoto the work on the nurses home has now been completed and accommodation is provided for 26 student nurses, a tutor sister, housekeeper and members of th,e domestic staff. This building will house part of the staff when work is commenced on the building of the maternity hospital.
