PRESS ATTACKED
“INDUSTRIAL UNREST MAGNIFIED "
LABOUR MEMBER CRITICAL p.A, INVERCARGILL, May 21. A vigorous attack on the press of New Zealand was made by Mr T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., at a function held by the Invercargill Labour Representation Committee in honour of the Minister of Lands, Mr Skinner, last night. Mr Doyle said all Labour supporters had to work hard for the success of their party in the next general election in 18 months. The battle had already begun. It was hardly possible, he claimed, to pick up a newspaper without finding ' some misrepresentation given prominence. “In New Zealand we are completely free from anv kind of industrial trouble,” said Mr Doyle. “The slightest bit of industrial unrest is mag-
r.ified in the press and sent all «>ver New Zealand. There is no country in the world so free from strikes as New Zealand, yet when we read the newspapers we find we are in 'a state of industrial unrest.
“The workers have done—and are doing—a magnificent job. Our production has never been exceeded, but they do not get the credit for it. We can see an attack being made on the Labour Government in England by the money barons who own the press there, and we can see an attack being made on the l abour Government by the money barons who own the press here. It behoves every one' of us to combat this insidious propaganda.”
