EXPORT KILLINGS
Export meat killings for the period October 1, 1947, to May 1, 1948, show an increase of 22,255 tons over the corresponding period for last season, states the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. It is expected that some leeway will be lost between now and the end of the season, compared with last year, but nevertheless there is little doubt that last season's record production of meat for export will be exceeded. Export killings for the Dominion to May 1, with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses, are:—Lambs, 10.666.052 carcasses (9.750.648); wethers, 508.065 carcasses (643.211); ewes, 1.843,390 carcasses (1,796,705); beef; 604,720 quarters (464.061); porkers, 81,197 carcasses (66.752); baconers. 146,391 carcasses (117,371). Average killing weights were:—Lambs, 34.151 b (35.431 b); wethers. 59.141 b (60.561 b); ewes, 55,561 b (56.821 b).
