FRESHENING RAINS

Inquiries for Hay

After a fairly dry period Nort Otago had about 62 points of rain this week, and this has freshened up the autumn green feed crops and , the early sown wheat. There have been further local inquiries for hay, but there is ve y little to offer this season. Wheat,—The Wheat Committee has issued further wan ants for ar-prox-mat ly 10 per cent, of the qu utit received in 1947, but there is • ow little locallv grown wheat *o ‘ll these warrants. Supplies of Australian feed wheat should also be available from the. Millhill. due in Dunedin in June. The auan ity has not yet been as* rtained. Some orders for seed wheat have b en delivered this week and further orders are in store aw-aiting delivery. Oats.—lt would appear that there are no flirth°r lines to come forward meantime. Chaff.—Stocks in store are being drawn on to fill local orders and there is very little available for shipping. Seeds. —There have been a few wholesale orders for certified ryegrass, cocksfoot and white clover. These markets remain firm with not much seed offering. Some lines of Montgomery red clover and cowgrass have reached the stores for dressing. The quality is better than last season and the yields are satisfactory. Growers are not offering their seed until dressed.
