STILL AT MANGAKINO

COMMUNIST UNIONSECRETARY

Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON, May 19. Mr L. V. Clapham, Communist secretary of the Mangakino branch of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, is. reported to be. still at Mangakino though his transfer to Auckland has been upheld foy the recent tribunal. A move to retain Mr Clapham as paid secretary of the union has been made among the workers at Mangakino and will probably be brought forward *at a meeting of the union there to-mor-row night. , ~ , The proposal has been made that members should contribute a certain amount weekly to provide a salary for Clapham in lieu of his earnings as a tunneller. It is thought unlikely, however, that sufficient members will agree to this course. The meeting tomorrow night will be addressed by the national secretary of the union, Mr Carl Hair, on the tribunal’s findings.
