QUIET WEEK

CITY FRUIT MARTS

TWO DELIVERIES OF APPLES

Business has been quiet in the city fruit marts so far this week. Two deliveries were made of dessert varieties of apples grown in Central Otago. The price of cooking apples was reduced during the week by 2s 6d a case, and they are now selling at from 8s to 10s 6d a case. The values of dessert apples are unchanged. Pears are wanted in the marts, but no deliveries have been made so far this week. Passion fruit are scarce, and as a result prices are high. The values increased by 8s and advanced to 22s a case yesterday. Tomatoes are slow of sale, and celery, which is in heavy supply, is bringing lower prices. Cabbages and cauliflowers are still in short supply, but carrots and parsnips are coming forward more freely. There is no word about the shipment of Island bananas and lemons which was to have been transhipped at Wellington.
