P.A. INVERCARGILL, May 18. Values generally at Lorneville to-day were in line with recent sales, but wethers firmed slightly. Ewes were easier and fat cattle prices increased by about £1 a head. In the fat sheep section ewes predominated, with the result that values were easier except for, top quality sorts, which sold at about par with last week. Wethers again sold well and were about 2s a head better. Heavy-weight wethers made from 65s to 67s 6d; good quality medium-weights, 60s to 635; handy-weight sorts, 55s to 58s; small and light, 47s to 525. Good quality butchers’ ewes made from 38s to 40s 6d; medium, 35s to 36s 6d; lighter weights, 31s to 345; unfinished sorts, 27s to 28s 6d. The maiority of the fat cattle yarding v/as of good quality. There was a medium entry and values generally showed an improvement. During the early portion of the sale prices were firm, but there was a firming tendency and an irnprovement of about £1 a head shown by the end of the sale. Prime heavy-weight bullocks made from £23 to £24 12s 6d, good quality mediumweights. £2O to £22; handy-weights, £lB to £l9 10s; smaller, £ls to £l6 10s. Prime young cows made to £lB 15s; good quality cows. £l4 to £ls 10s; mediumweights, £l2 to £l3 10s; aged, £9 to £lO 10s.
