AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

Camping Fees Raised

At the monthly meeting of the North Otago Automobile Association on Monday night it was decided that the fees at the association’s camping grounds in the Oamaru Public Gardens should be raised. The new rates, which were approved and will come into force as from July 1, are:— First three nights, members 3s per night, non-members 4s 6d; thereafter, members 2s 6d per car per night, non-members 4s 6d; members, per week, 12s 6d; nonmembers, 255; use of conveniences and parking only, members Is per car, nonmembers 2s per car. Mr A. C. Taylor was in the chair. It was reported that at present there were 13 caravans in the camping ground. Nineteen new members had been nominated during the month. Members were recommended to paint the inside of their hub caps with some distinguishing mark, so that they would be able to identify them in case of loss. It was decided that -the association should endeavour to obtain the services of a patrol officer for three months, in an effort to increase the membership. It was reported that a recent tour covering 206 miles had been made to inspect the signposts in the Upper Waitaki area. It was found that many of the signs were in varying stages of disrepair and needed attention. After discussion it was decided to approach the garages in Oamaru asking them to refrain from the practice of testing cars on the Hospital Hill, because of the danger to pedestrians and other traffic.
