BACKS SUPERIOR

DUNEDIN HAS GOOD WIN The ability to win the ball consistently from the scrums and superior pace and finish in the back line enabled .Dunedin to defeat Port 'Chalmers by 13 points to nil in the main match at Carisbrook. The Port forwards played a lively, bustling game. Territorially, they had the better of the first half, but on several occasions when they were close to .scoring they lost possession. Time after time attacks launched by the Dark Blues were driven out by the long kicks of the Port Chalmers full-back, J. Peck, who played an excellent game. M. McKerchar, Dunedin’s wing three-quarter, who played a most serviceable game, scored the only try in the first spell. Just as Port had largely dominated the first half, ,on the resumption Dunedin had all the better of the play. Tries., were scored by N. McCartney and T. Ryan. Lawrence converted both. J. Riach and D. Lowe stood out in the Dunecin pack for good all-round play. C. Todd’s hooking was first-class. Lawrence was the spearhead of the attack. In the Port Chalmers pack, W. H. Rendell was noticeable for good line-out play, as were H. Ives, H. Robertson and J. Henderson-, in the loose. R. Wellgreen played soundly at half-back. Mr A. Halligan was the referee.
