RANGE OF PRICES

The following quotations per 1001 b for beef and per lb for mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week’s prices, by our special representative at yesterday's Burnside stock sale:—

yarding of medium sorts, this class of pig had a rather indifferent inquiry. The demand for dairy cows was particularly good, and high prices were secured for all good class cows close to profit. Fat Cattle In this section the showing was a particularly good one, there being a number of consignments of specially good quality beef offered. The demand throughout was fairly regular, with little quotable alteration in prices from those of last week, with the exception of the poorer class of beef, which was soniewhat lower. The quality of cows and heifers was also good, and these met with satisfactory values throughout. One consignment of choice sorts offered on account of C. W. H. Tripp, Pukerau, realised up to £2B 2s 6d, and the average for 21 bullocks was £25 9s 6d. Quotations: Extra prime heavy bullocks, to £2B 2s 6d; prime heavy, to £26 7s 6d; prime £23 7s 6d to £25 2s 6d; medium, £2O 17s 6d to £2l 17s 6d; light, from £ls 17s 6d. Prime heavy heifers, £l7 17s 6d to £l9 2s 6d; prime, £l4 17s'6d to £l6 7s 6d; medium, £l2 12s 6d to £l4 2s 6d: light, from £ll 2s 6d. Extra prime cows, to £l6 17s 6d; prime, £l2 17s 6d to £l4 17s 6d medium, £lO 7s 6d to £ll 12s 6d; light, from £8 12s 6d. Fat Sheep The offering of fat sheep numbered approximately 1450. With this small offering to hand, bidding was keen from the outset, and remained so throughout the sale. Prices showed an improvement of fully 2s to 3s a head above the good values secured last week, with a further increase in parts of the sale. Included in the entry were a few consignments of good quality ewes, which reached high prices. Quotations: Prime heavy wethers, 65s to 695; prime, 58s to 625; medium, 47s to 50s; light, from 425. Prime heavy ewes, 43s to 455; prime, 36s to 40s; medium, 32s tc 345; light, from 265. Fat Lambs The entry of lambs was the smallest of the season, with the quality somewhat better than it has been for the last two or three weeks. With this small entry, bidding by the trade and export buyers was keen, resulting in good values being secured. Best-quality lambs made from 38s to 445; medium, 34s to 365; light, from 295. Store Cattle With a larger entry to hand, more interest was shown in the store cattle sale, and the prices obtained were well up to recent values secured at Burnside. Two pens of three-year-old steers made £l2 3s and £l2 7s; two pens of Polled cross made £ll 7s and £ll 19s; and one to one-and-a-half-year-old sorts made from £6 5s to £7 4s. Two pens of two-year-old heifers realised £8 4s to £8 17s. The inquiry for runners and vealers was quite equal to recent sales. Good-quality runners made from £9 5s to £ll ss; best vealers, £5 Is 5d to £7; medium, £4 3s to £4 12s; and small, from £2 15s. Fat Pigs The entry esof good-quality baconers was by no means sufficient for the trade, and inquiries for these were consistent throughout. There are, however, supplies of light-weight baconers, which are not attractive to the trade, and these have not the inquiry of the better class. Primequality baconers are realising from £7 12s to £8; medium, £6 to £6 14s; and light, from £5 10s. Best porkers made £4 14s to £5 4s and medium £3 18s to £4 ss. Store pigs realised late rates, good stores making from 35s to £2; well-grown weaners, 18s to 235; and smaller sorts, from 14s. Dairy Cattle

The dairy cow section had a somewhat better display than for some time, including a few young cows of good class, close to profit. These made from £l9 to £22 and average sorts £9 to £l2.
