MIDDLEMARCH

OBITUARY In the death of Mr Farquhar Mcßae recently the Strath-Taieri district lost a highly-respected member of the farming community. Mr Mcßae, who was born at Macrae’s, was the eldest son of the late Duncan Mcßae, one of the largest Crown tenants in the macrae’s and Moonlight district in the early days. After his father’s death Mr Mcßae took over the management of the property in conjunction with his brother, and later purchased a highly-improved agricultural farm at Sutton, which he occupied until his death. In recent years Mr Mcßae was successful in breeding and fattening commercial cattle, and at the Grand National Fat Stock Show at Christchurch last year he won the cup awarded by the AberdeenAngus Society, as well as a butchers award for the best shop bullock. Mr Mcßae travelled to Great Britain in 1937, visting the birthplace of his parents at Glengarry, North of Scotland, and the Continent. On his return he married Miss Willa Campbell, of Pukekohe, South Auckland, who survives him. PLUNKET SOCIETY At the eleventh annual meeting of the Middlemarch sub-branch of the Plunket Society the following officers were elected:—President, Mrs G. S. Gillespie; vicepresidents—Mesdames Rutherford, UChisholm, and R. Kidd; treasurer, Mrs W. Brenssell; secretary, Mrs B. JJ. Thompson; committee —Mesdames J. Black, T. Cockburn, M. Robertson. F.
