ALEXANDRA FARMING COMMISSION The Commission on High-country Farming held sittings at Alexandra last week. RUGBY FOOTBALL Tire Rugby football draw for the first matches in the Vincent competition, which will commence on April 24, is:— Alexandra v. Tarras, at Tarras; Clyde v. Matakanui, at Matakanui; Wanaka v. Queenstown, at Queenstown; Arrowtown v. Cromwell, at Cromwell; Bannockburn, a bye. RIFLE SHOOTING The Alexandra Defence Rifle Club held the final shoot for the season during last week. The day and range prizes were won by A. Sibbald at 300 yards. G. Shaw won the president’s prize at 600 yards. OBITUARY The death occurred recently of Mrs W. R. Lloyd Williams. Mrs Williams came to Alexandra over 20 years ago, and established the business known as Henderson’s Bakery. She was keenly interested in St. Aidan’s Anglican Church and the Alexandra Ladies’ Croquet Club. PERSONAL M r W. E. Shaw, commissioner of Crown lands, is at present visiting Alexandra. Dr Jeans, of the Health Department, is carrying out the periodical inspection of school children. The Rev. Father Mahoney is conducting a mission in St. John’s Church. CHORAL SOCIETY At a recent meeting of the Choral Society Committee it was decided to commence practices for the season on Monday. Discussion took place in connection with concerts for the year, and it was suggested that a combined concert be held, at which some visiting singers would be asked to assist. The concert to be held near the end of the year would include part at least of Handel’s “ Messiah.”
