POPPY DAY APPEAL

The landing of the Anzacs at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915, brought into prominence the selling of the red poppy, and in the 1939-1945 World War many of our exservicemen saw these poppies growing in Greece and elsewhere. Since 1921, when the late Earl Haig instituted the sale of poppies, the response throughout the Empire has been excellent. In New Zealand, the popples are made by the disabled soldiers in their factory in Christchu’rch. These men are now permanently employed by the increase in the sale of poppies. It is hoped that every member of the public will help by buying one on Poppy Day. to-morrow.
