Mansor, of Cromwell, with some success, has produced a colt foal to Lo Zingaro. Big Team The former New Zealander, Maurice McCarten, has 42 horses in training and employs 28 men and boys. Sleepy Fox has won the Auckland Easter Handicap four years in succession, the weights he carried being 8.0, 9.5, 10.2 and 9.13. Promise as Jumper
The Midian gelding Divorced has not been placed this season and will probably be one of the outsiders in the Stewards’ Handicap at Oamaru to-day. He has shown proficiency as a jumper and may be put to hurdling during the winter. Brother to Night Owl Owl’s Perch, who is engaged in the Trial Stakes at Oamaru to-day, is a five-year-old brother to Night Owl, being by Nightly from Owl’s Nest. Battle Song Gelding Encounter was started twice on the second day of the Cromwell meeting, in the Highweight Handicap, and in the next galloping race on the card, the Novice Handicap, in which he put up a promising performance to run second to Flibbertigibbet. Present intentions are to race him at Beaumont, after which the Battle Song gelding will be given a spell. Finished On At the Geraldine meeting in October Te Tara ran second to Baracha in the Wainui Stakes, finishing on well from fourth into the straight. A three-year-old gelding by Salmagundi from Receipt (Paper Money—Satisfaction), he is one of W. P. Hogan’s team at Washdyke. French Owner
The French champagne merchant Marcel Boussac has about 120 mares at his two studs and 82 horses in training. Last year the stable won in France 54 races, and, in addition, earned place money 54 times; in England, nine races were won in 30 starts, with 12 horses placed; in Belgium, there was one victory in two starts.
