A BUSY WEEK

PETROL RESELLERS NO EVIDENCE OF HOARDING Petrol resellers in Dunedin were exceptionally busy this week in providing both local and visiting motorists with their requirements. Resellers interviewed by the Daily Times yesterday afternoon said that there had been a tremendous inquiry for petrol, and every motorist was able to obtain some, if not all he wanted. No reports were received of vehicles being stranded through lack of fuel. Resellers said that little of the rush was due to motorists endeavouring to hoard supplies before rationing by coupons begins on Monday. In most cases the reason given for requiring petrol was to get “ enough to go to the races and to the fireworks display.” Most motorists said that they could get enough petrol on Monday by using their coupons. The rush for petrol began each day last week in the early hours of the morning between 7.30 and 9 o'clock. Although business was fairly steady for the remainder of the day, most motorists, and especially those using their vehicles for businoss purposes, went early for their petrol. Most business people were described by resellers as being reasonable and moderate in their demands, but some private motorists were just the reverse. On the whole, however, most petrol users showed an appreciation of the position in which the resellers found themselves in trying to distribute the quotas fairly.
