Centenarian from Auckland to Attend Otago Celebrations
Mrs O. E. Nielson, of Auckland, who was 101 years old last October, will be a visitor to Dunedin for the centennial celebrations next month. Accompanied by her husband, who is 20 years her junior, she will fly from Auckland to Dunedin on March 17. Mrs Nielsen came to New Zealand 84 years ago in the ship Bombay, and settled in the district which was later given the ship's name. Arrangements for her visit to the south have been made by the New Zealand Pioneers and Descendants’ Club. It is hoped that a meeting can be aranged between Mrs Nielsen and' Dunedin’s centenarian, Mrs Susan McFarlane, of Maitland street, who will be 102 in May—five months before Mrs Nielsen.
