TROTTING NOTES
By the Sporting Editor February 14, 21 .. Interdominion r cDruary i*. championships. February 14 .. •. Canterbury Park T.C. Jottings The Gore-trained pacer Amarant is due to show an early improvement. Buncrana has been placed nine times in 15 starts this season. A winning turn for her would be popular. Barrier Practice Henry of Navarre has been given barrier practice at Addington this week. With a smooth beginning he would be the hardest horse to beat in the Strowan Handicap at Addington. Trained at Mataura In six starts this season Peccadillo has been placed five times and a win for him would not come out of its turn. A five-year-old by Dillon Hall from Dramatic, he is trained at Mataura by D. Todd, and he will be raced at Gore on Saturday. Should Be Improved Tom Gundy should be improved by the racing he had at the recent Forbury Park meeting and appears to have bright prospects of reaching a place in the Wigram Handicap at Addington. Addington Prospect Best Globe is likely to be one of the public’s choice for the Advance Handicap at Addington on Saturady. He is a three-year-old by Springfield Globe from Renown's Best and in nine starts this season he has collected a win and four placings. Two Recent Wins Quarterdeck, a candidate for the Advance Handicap at Addington, is a three-year-old by Black Globe from Moradine. Owned by P. P. Gallagher, he won his two most recent races and showed promise of developing into a very useful performer. Gore Brackets Brackets in the trotting events at Gore are:—Balfour Trot, Fabric Silk and Thorndell; Progressive Trot, Aspasia and Decreed, and Master James and Air Mail. Brother to Keymaster Landlight, an acceptor for the Balfour Trot at Gore, is a three-year-old gelding by Dillon Hall from Hymenial, by Worthy Bond from Love Match, by Four Chimes from Bay Belle, by King Harold from Black Bess, by Mainsail, a thoroughbred. Landbright is a full-brother to Keymaster, who is also engaged at Gore. In Splendid Order Backed down to 3-4 in the betting, Stirling Castle lost his chance when he broke when attempting to make a forward move in the middle stages of the Otahuhu Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Stirling Castle was paraded in splendid order by M. Holmes, who trains him at Yaldhurst, and, with better luck in the running, he should prove hard to beat on the later days of the meeting.
