BRITISH GARRISON

EVACUATION TO LIBYA Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 10. When the British garrison leaves Palestine it will go mainly to Libya, says the military correspondent of. the Daily Telegraph, and the first arrivals are likely to occupy the Italian barracks in Tripoli. Cyprus was considered as an alternative to Libya, but the island’s capacity is so limited that it is unlikely to take more than three battalions.

The basic formations of the Palestine garrison are the Ist Infantry Division and the Sixth Airborne Division, both of which, it is understood, will be part of Britain’s permanent post-war army.
