“SHOP OF THE FAR EAST"
American Aims in Japan SWEEPING SOVIET CHARGES Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 3. Commenting on the second anniversary of Japan’s surrender, Soviet newspapers in the most outspoken criticism of the United States policy which has so far appeared, accused America of bringing hunger and economic ruin to the Japanese says Reuter’s Moscow correspondent. Pravda charged the United States with, first, supporting the Japanese war criminals, particularly Admiral Kiyoshi Hasegawa, former Governor of Formosa, whose services they hoped to use for building strategic bases in South China and Formosa. Secondly, recruiting Japanese suicide flyers in the United States Air Force. Thirdly, protecting Japanese industrial magnates and trying to push out other countries from a solution of the reparations question. Fourthly, giving support to the elements trying to undermine a democratic movement in Japan. Fifthly, planning to transform Japan into A weapon for conquering the Asiatf.c market. Sixthly, ignoring the important recommendations of the Allied Control Council for Japan. The trade union organ Trud said that America was planning to transform Japan into the “ Shop of the Far East.” It was protecting industrial magnates and providing a market with American raw materials and goods, and also planning to build Japan into a military and strategic bridgehead and a collection of American trusts.
