MARINE AIRPORTS

ENGLISH EXPERT’S VISIT SOME DELAY INEVITABLE The Government last month announced its intention to approach the United Kingdom Government in order to see whether the services of Mr Peter Masefield, Director-general of Long-term Planning at the British Ministry of Civil Aviation, could be made available to report on the feasibility of establishing marine airports in New Zealand. Mr Masefield accompanied Lord Nathan to Australia to attend a meeting of the South Pacific Air Transport Council.' From information contained in the latest issue of Whites Aviation it would appear that there is no likelihood of Mr Masefield being able to visit the Dominion before the end of the year. Commenting on the proposal, the magazine states that Mr Masefield will be back in England before the invitation reaches him. Lord Nathan, the British Minister of Civil Aviation, informed a representative of the journal that he would readily allow Mr Masefield to accept the New Zealand Government’s invitation to inspect aerodromes and marine airport facilities in New Zealand. He did not think the visit would be possible, however, before December or January.
