HIGH STANDARD OF DISPLAY
N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 18. The British licensed Berlin Social Democrat newspaper, Telegraf, vigorously protested against the military display involved in the tattoo presented by the British military command on Maifield Stadium, in Berlin. The Russian press also criticised the display as “militaristic and a waste ° f ln^pite^o?" ’criticisms, however, 20,000 citizens of Berlin have packed the stadium each night to watch the tattoo, which is given in the main by detachments from four famous British cavalry regiments—the First King s Royal Dragoon Guards, the Royal Scots Greys, and the Seventh and Tenth Hussars. All detachments wear their full ceremonial dress and the display is described by British commentators as being fully equal to prfcwar Aldershot standards Mr F. J. Bellenger, Secretary for War. who attended the tattoo, described it as “an excellent example of the adaptability, humour, and discipline of thp British. Army.”
