SIGNS OF SPRING
Signs of spring are already apparent in Otago and Southland. Numerous early lambs, predominantly Dorset Horn Cross, are thriving, and it is definite that the Dorset Horns will increase their popularity in the future. This breed can run with the rams at any time of the year and one ewe can produce an early spring lamb and a late autumn lamb and often twins and triplets. Early spring growth of pastures and crops is particularly noticeable at present. As a result of the favourable weather, stock is coming through the winter well and the feed position is better than was expected some months ago. Stock losses have been the lightest for many years. The cultivation of the land for springsown crops has received little hindrance.
