CONCESSIONS IN INDUSTRY EQUALITY OF SACRIFICE STRESSED Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 4. A number of trade union leaders are suggesting as a quid pro quo for concessions which industry will be asked to make to meet the crisis that the Government should not abandon its Socialist programme, that profits should be further restricted, and that release from the armed forces should be expedited, says the Daily Telegraph. Both the Daily Telegraph and the ’ Daily Express say that the Government will call for the extension to other industries of the longer working hours already proposed for miners. The Daily Express says that Whitehall chiefs and trade union leaders feel certain that a longer day plan will not work unless the plan applies to all industries on the equality of sacrifice principle and not just on those in export industries or pits. . The measures under consideration, according to the Daily Telegraph, include the restoration of control of the engagement order to prevent workers leaving their trades, and an investigation into the employment of about 1,000,000 workers whose work is unidentified.
