By Eclipse August 9, 16 .. Canterbury J.C August 9 .... Hawke s Bay H.C. August 16 .... Pakuranga H.C August 16 .. .. Dannevirke H.C. August 23 I. .. Egmont - Wanganui Jottings Acceptances for the second day of the Grand National meeting are due to-day. Boolamskee and Desert Trek look certain to dispute favouritism for the Grand National Hurdles. . . . Vanity Xing was prominent in the early running in the Avonhead Handicap, but disappeared when heads were turned for home. Light in Condition Bravura looked very light in condition on Saturday, but he belied his looks by running second to Fairyhouse after trailing the winner practically throughout. Let-up for Soneri Soneri has been taken home. She will be given a let-up, and her near foreleg will be blistered. When she returned to the birdcage on Saturday she received one of the biggest ovations ever given to a horse at Riccarton. Record Turnover The totalisator turnover of £173,368 10s at Riccarton on Saturday was a record for the course. The previous record of £172,900 was established on New Zealand Cup Day last November. So large was the crowd that hundreds never left the stands, and it was estimated mat at least £SOOO was shut out from the totalisator. By Foxbridge Clyde Bridge, who finished fifth in the Winter Cup, was showing a very long price. He is a five-year-old by Foxbridge from River Tide, and he should not be long off the winning list. Weight Corrections The following corrections have been received in the handicaps for the Grand National meeting on Saturday:—Gloucester Cup: Botany 12.7, Sir Tague 11.3, Periwig 10.13. Woolston Handicap: Citril 88, Lady Melrose 8.5. National Hurdles: Prize Ring 11.5. Spreydon Hurdles: Foxstar 11.5. Islington Handicap: Miss Medley 8.9. August Handicap: Theocritus 9.10. Not Impressive Silverstream put in one brilliant jump in the Trial Hurdles, but apart from that he ran a poor race, and was always well back. He is not a betting proposition in the meantime. Lorna Leigh After being well placed throughout, Lorna Leigh gave nothing else a chance in the run home in the Paparua Handicap. In her present form the Battle Song mare should not be long in winning again. Steeples Candidates The oldest runners in the Grand National Steeples were Surpeen and Town Survey, who are 11 years of age. The six-year-old Appeasement was the youngest runner. Special Flight When A. E. Didham sent Special Flight in pursuit of Beechwood and Deficiency in the home stretch in the Avonhead Handicap she put in good work, and looked like bridging the gap, but she faltered slightly in the last few strides and was third to cross the line. Just Beaten Deficiency, who was pust touched off in the Avonhead Handicap, is a five-year-old mare by Defaulter from Wai-iti 11, and is trained by C. Emerson. Improvement Likely All’s Fair made a good showing in the Cashmere Plate, and appealed as one likely to develop into a very useful performer. A three-year-old: filly by Pink Coat from Stourbridge Fair, she is owned by Mr D. Grant and trained for him by R. P. Register and F. Hanrahan. Duke of Gloucester Cup Taking a line through his recent form. Lord Dundonald is entitled to consideration as a place prospect in the Duke of Gloucester Cup. Every Chance Detain had every chance in the Winter Cup, and L. Hare had him well placed throughout, but the Defaulter gelding could not pull out the bit of extra speed required in the run home.
