POWER FOR BRITAIN
ELECTRICITY FROM URANIUM POSSIBLE IN THREE YEARS Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, June 10. Professor J. D. Cockcroft told the. Institute of Mechanical Engineers in London that Britain may have an atomic power station generating electricity within three years. British scientists knew. enough to build a uranium engine now which should generate electricity as efficiently as a coal-fuelled power station. With more research it should soon be possible to pump into a grid as usable electricity 30 per cent, of the energy set free by splitting uranium atoms. The Daily Express reiterates its assertion that Britain’s first atomic power station will be built at Drigg, in Cumberland, at a cost of £7,000,000 in spite of the Government statement that a site had not yet been decided.
