FIGHTING IN CHINA
MONGOLIAN FORCE MOVING SINKIANG PROVINCE INVADED Rec. 9 p.m. NANKING, June 10. A battalion of Outer Mongolian cavalry and other troops, supported by four aircraft with Soviet markings, have invaded Sinkiang Province. The invaders, who are accompanied by lorries loaded with ammnunition, concentrated their attack against the town of Peitashan, 117 miles from Chitan, in East Sinkiang. „ , The Government-controlled news agency says that Government troops are now resisting the Mongolians 200 miles north-west of Tihwa. The aircraft accompanying the invaders strafed Chinese troops and concentrations and bombed and strafed civilians and towns. Military sources said they believed that the garrison on the spot comprised only a few native troops with trained Chinese officers. The region has been in a continuous state of unrest since Outer Mongolia was granted independence. They added that because of the great distances involved and the lack of readily-available troops, it was unlikely that the Government would be able to send adequate defence forces to Sinkiang. The Chinese Communist radio claims that Red troops captured Chihfeng, an important city 110 miles north-west of Chengteh, in Jehol Province.
