WOMEN AT THE WICKETS
The decisive win scored by the Wellington women’s representative cricket team over Otago at the Oval was attributable principally to the obviously more thorough grounding in the game possessed by the visiting players. Otago failed in its batting mostly owing to the inability of the members to execute the wide variety of strokes used by their opponents. Most of their strokes were made from the back foot, and, instead of trying to hit the ball, the Otago batswomen were content merely to endeavour to guide it into a different course by its own momentum. They failed to get out to the ball by using their feet and driving, with the result that the bowling of the Wellington players was made to look better than it actually was. _ The Wellington eleven scored a creditable win, to which Mrs J. Lamason, the wife of the Wellington representative cricketer, J. Lamason, made a full contribution, scoring an excellent double both with the bat and the ball.
