RESENTMENT EXPRESSED
(Rec. 8 a.m.) PARIS, Aug. 15. “The interests of the Allies could not be furthered by ignoring the repeated misrepiesentaitons levelled against America from this floor.” said Mr James Byrnes unexpectedly intervening in a debate at the Paris Conference when he objected to Russia giving the impression to the conference that other former enemy States were more democratic than Italy because the Italian Government was not; harmonising its views with the Soviet “We object to misrepresentation of our viewpoints and motives. We oppose making the small nations the satellites of other States,” he declared. Referring to Mr Molotov’s suggestion that other Powers were seeking economic advantages in Italy. Mr Byrnes said- “What great Power enriched itself in this war? I know of none. I hope Mr Molotov is not referring to America.”
