OPOSSUM SKINS

KEEN DEMAND EXPECTED FIRST SALE IN SEPTEMBER Since the opening of the opossum trapping season on June 1, some 250 occupiers! permits and 170 trappers' licences have been issued in Otago. Reports received to date indicate that the opossums are plentiful throughout the district, and with the mild winter that has been experienced, trappers will have every opportunity of getting into bush areas which are normally too damp to work. This applies particularly to the Catlins district from which the best skins are usually secured. *

The first sale in Dunedin will be held on September 17, and already several thousand skins are' in the hands of the brokers.

The high prices ruling for rabbitskins overseas afford a reasonable expectation that other furs will be in keen demand.
