THE NEW EDUCATION

BRINGING UP HUSBANDS INSTRUCTIONS IN HOMECRAFT (N.Z.P.A Special Correspondent) LONDON. July 8. Homecraft instruction for husbands and wives, as well as for women contemplating marriage, has been suggested by the Ministry of Education in a letter to local education authorities. It is pointed out that many young women were deprived of opportunities of learning homecraft owing to the war. and that the suggested courses would be of great assistance to them. The subjects for instruction include nutrition, cookery, fruit preserving, household budgeting, sanitation, shopping organisation, household repairs and decoration, choice and care of clothing, needlework, dressmaking, maternity and infant welfare, and first aid.

The Ministry suggests that lectures or short courses dealing with problems of bringing up children and household repairs could be attended by fathers and husbands. In the staffing service the education authorities are asked to employ retired married women teachers as part-time instructors, and to encourage voluntary organisations to assist.
