BRILLIANT DONNELLY
OUTSTANDING INNINGS CENTURY BEFORE LUNCH (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 1 a.m.) LOItfDON, July 9. Donnelly’s magnificent innings 0f*142 overshadowed everything else in the Oxford and Cambridge' match, and as a result Oxford has virtually won the game. When .play is resumed to-day Oxford will need only 11 runs, with seven wickets in hand. “It was an innings which will rank as one of the greatest in the inter-university series, and many assert that this short, talented New Zealander is the most accomplished batsman ever to appear in the Oxford team,” says the NewsChronicle’s cricket writer. In the first hour yesterday Donnelly made 71 out of the first 86, and swept on to score 113 in 105 minutes in- what was described as “one of the quickest, most graceful, and most technically brillian pre-lunch centuries seen at Lord’s for a long time”
